Minecraft and its "boxels"
So day one. I’m surprised I got this far. Usually I create great plans and then forget about them. Anyways let’s get to it.
So my day today was mostly comprised of sitting around and doing nothing. However I did start into Minecraft. Minecraft is a PC/MAC RPG on some form of strange everlasting steroid. The basic plot of the game is, frankly, non existent. There is absolutely no story in this game… so if you’re a story freak, this ain’t for you. So upon starting the game randomly generates a world of which no two are the same. You could find yourself in the middle of an arctic wasteland, a metropolis of colour and life, an unforgiving desert, or a never ending mountain range, who knows really. The aim of the game, in my opinion, is to survive and thrive in this world. From tearing down trees with your bear hands to riding rollercoasters you use the world around you in the hopes of constructing greatness. The two main elements of this game are mining and well, crafting, thus the name. The graphics are retro 3D with “boxels” forming the world around you. If you are a “graphics whore” this probably isn’t for you either. This game seems to be aired at a strange audience. If you are patient and love the feeling of building something, this is for you. If you are looking for a crazy game like no other, this is for you. In my opinion Minecraft is something everyone should try, or watch. If you aren’t into the whole buying without seeing thing I suggest you watch X’s adventures in Minecraft at for a while, that’s what got me hooked.
So as you can probably tell Minecraft is going to be something I will continue to play for a while. I’ll keep this blog updated with events, pics and theories from Minecraft for the foreseeable future.
The only other game I played today was Rockband as I had cousins over to stay. We sucked rocked out for a while until our instruments failed us and we decided to break up the band until Rockband 3 was released so that we could all play our preferred instruments (I’m the awkward one with the piano/keyboard). The career in Rockband seems to be very straight forward: play songs, earn stars/money, play more songs, become a worldwide sensation, get stuck, lose all of your fans, quit. Aside from this I love the game, it’s a little clunky, one major flaw is the lack of drop in drop out, but with a great song list and a solid mechanic the game is barrels of fun ( as stupid as that phrase sounds).
So it wasn’t the most exciting day for games ever. Tomorrow I’ll have thoughts on Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, more Minecraft, hopefully some Deadspace and almost definitely some FIFA 10 with friends.
If you have read this far congratulations you are a very patient individual. Thanks for your time and I hope this post wasn’t so boring that I’ve scared you away from my blog for good.
Keep on Gaming (at least until I come up with a new sign of)
